Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe is a well-known institution established in 1984 and it is situated in four hectares of raspberry plantings in Moltema, which is halfway between Launceston and Devonport.

It has long been a favourite with the Elizabeth Town locals for good raspberry-twist dishes in a stone-and-timber relaxed cafe with a lake-view deck.

We stopped over at this delightful cafe on our recent trip to Launceston, and judging by how busy it was on a Thursday lunchtime visit, it is evidently a popular destination.

Upon entering through the main door, I was surprised at how warm and welcoming the place was, especially as the first sight I saw was the cosy open log fire with tables and chairs around it. It was a cold winter's day, so we promptly sat ourselves by the fireplace.

The menu boasted an extensive varieties of raspberry desserts, all baked fresh on site each day. I decided to skip lunch and go straight to the dessert sections.

We ordered the signature raspberry latte and it was an instant attraction when the waitstaff brought the drink over. The cafe latte was served with raspberry syrup and sprinkled with raspberry lust dust. It was like something out of a fairy-tale - so pink and so magical.

The waitstaff stopped by and offered us some chocolate coated raspberries to try with the latte. It was a divine wicked treat and they were available for purchase at the gift store section.

We took pleasure in the warmth of this delicious latte and the cosy atmosphere.

We also ordered a Raspberry Pancake to share and let me tell you, the dish was a plateful of joyful sight with all the beautiful red and white colours.

The soft and fluffy pancake was garnished with fresh, plump raspberries and topped with a full scoop of raspberry ice-cream and raspberry conserve. The fragrant hot raspberry sauce was drizzled all over the pancake. An extra scoop of vanilla ice-cream by the side was an excellent accompaniment to the warm pancakes.

The pancake tasted light to the palate and it was not overly sweet. In fact, I was surprisingly impressed with this delightful cafe. The presentation was good, the desserts tasted good and service came with a smile.

You can eat in or take your desserts away, but with the interior of Raspberry Farm Cafe all done up to create a relaxed country cottage feeling with large windows overlooking lush lawns and a lake filled with water lilies it's like missing out on the best part if you take your food to go.

The café is open 7 days per week all year from 7am to 5pm, and they sell raspberry jams and assorted home made raspberry products (such as the chocolate dipped raspberries, or rich creamy raspberry ice cream) from the gift shop during the raspberry season.
