Southbank is a great destination for a family outing at any time of the year but its going to be even better in the month leading up to Christmas. This year, Christmas at Southbank will be 'Made with Love,' helping visitors get into the spirit of giving and spend quality time with friends and family.

For the kids and anyone with crafty fingers (or even those without), there will be a series of art and craft workshops. Little ones can enjoy making wrapping paper and gift tags, learning Japanese braiding, decorating mini Christmas trees and more.

The grown-ups can make gifts for special people with workshops on textile screen printing, Japanese folded fabric Christmas decorations and plenty of others or get into some of the activities that the whole family can enjoy together like the Reverse Garbage recycled material Christmas decorations workshop. The workshops cost from $7-$30 and tickets can be booked on the Southbank website.

If you're not artistically inclined, you can just head along for a picnic on the Little Stanley Street Lawns where there are deckchairs and lawn games from 10am and music and drinks after 6pm. Take along your own picnic or choose something from the Graze Menu at the marquee. The lawn games (which sound delightfully old-fashioned) include quoits, table tennis, chess and lessons on croquet.

So if your looking for something different to do with the family or just friends this festive season, head along to Southbank for Christmas under the trees.
