Christmas in Brisbane – is there anything that could top that? Maybe free Christmas events in Brisbane?
My young family and I were lucky enough to be invited to a preview of the Enchanted Garden. This year marks the first (of many, we hope!) where Brisbane can enjoy Christmas lighting wonders in the Roma Street Parkland. We happily spent over an hour wandering (me) or running (the kids) excitedly through these beautiful gardens.
Open 6.30pm – 9pm every night from 9th – 18th December, this event is free and perfect for young ones (and the young at heart) who still enjoy some Christmas magic. The lighting showcases the best of nature in these beautiful gardens, where you and your little ones can wander through the Enchanted Garden (otherwise known as the Spectacle Garden) and spot fairies, elves, fairy doors and even a small Santa.
As well as the Enchanted Garden, Roma Street Parkland have a host of Christmas activities this year. At the nearby Amphitheater, you can enjoy free Christmas themed movies for a week with a different movie showing each night from Saturday 10th – Friday 16th December. Bring a picnic and a rug, or enjoy fare from the food trucks in attendance from 5.30pm. The movies start at 7pm.
Some of the movies include Arthur Christmas on Saturday 10th December, then on the following evening, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. That quintessential Christmas movie, Love Actually is shown on Monday 12th, followed by the classic Miracle on 34th Street. See the Christmas in Brisbane website for more details about the Christmas Movies in the Park.
Christmas Workshops for the kids are also held. These include making bamboo lanterns, Christmas decorations and Christmas wreaths. Again, check the Christmas in Brisbane website for workshop details, recommended children's ages, cost (free - $5) and times.
A Christmas Family concert will be held at the Roma Street Parkland Amphitheater from 2pm on Sunday 11th December. Food trucks are available on site or bring a picnic to this free event with the Brisbane Symphonic Band and BSB Swing performing some of your favourite Christmas songs. There may even be a visit from the Big Man himself!
Take some time out to enjoy the Christmas season and celebrate our beautiful city with your family at Roma Street Parklands.
Seeing fairies and elves must only be for the believers . . . I didn't see any? While the lights were lovely and the aromas delightful. I missed the enchanting part?? Hopefully they will build on this, in the coming years.
