4 Christmas Events Just For Dogs 2016

Summer is almost here, Christmas is on its way and everywhere you look in Canberra there are people enjoying time with their dogs. Each weekend hundreds of people walk their dogs around the lakes, play Frisbee with them in the parks and buy treats for them at the local markets. With so much love for precious pooches in the Capital, it is only natural there would be some Christmas events held just for them - and you - although mainly for them! The following are 4 events held over the Christmas period that you can enjoy with your pup and include them in the festive season.

Friday, 2nd December**

1/ Pet Photography will be available at Westfield Shopping Centre at Woden and Belconnen , so you can get a Christmas photo of your pet looking their cutest. The time is between 6pm - 9pm, when the centre is reasonably quiet and there will be no distractions. This would be an ideal Christmas present for the whole family and a treasured photo for the mantlepiece.

Saturday, 3rd December

2/ Mollie and Tannin's Christmas Dog Party will be held at the Murrumbateman Winery, 30 minutes north of the CBD. Take your dog for a country drive to the wineries and enjoy some wine tasting, while your dog enjoys making new friends. Resident dogs at the winery, Mollie and Tannin, were rescue dogs and want to give back this Christmas. They've organised a "Wishing Bone" at the cellar door and are hoping to get enough dog toys donated so that every dog and puppy at the RSPCA ACT can get a Christmas present this year. 3/ Santa Pet Photos will be held at Tuggeranong Hyperdome Shopping Centre on 3rd December (between 1pm - 3pm), as well as the 9th and 16th December (between 5pm - 7pm). See details here .

Sunday, 4th December

4/ 12 Barks of Christmas Carols is an event organised by the RSPCA ACT so the people of Canberra can celebrate the festive season with their dogs. Sing along with the Christmas carols, enjoy food for the both of you at the markets and shop for doggie Christmas gifts at the RSPCA ACT Retail Stall. Dress up in your best Christmas attire and win prizes on the night! This event will be held at the Amphitheatre at the National Arboretum between 4pm - 7pm, with limited tickets available. All proceeds go towards the animals in care at the RSPCA ACT shelter. See details here .

During the Christmas season and all year around, there are numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs who are happy to have dogs have a rest under the table while their owners enjoy a meal. Some literally lay out the welcome mat with water bowls, mats and doggie treats on the menu. Everyone loves their pets, however sadly not everyone treats them with the respect they deserve. It is heartening to see the Murrumbateman Winery and the RSPCA ACT putting on events that can raise money to help the animals in their Weston shelter. With so many cute dogs to help this Christmas, how can you resist?
