Christmas Day is all about family getting together, celebrating, catching up after long absences, listening to each other's latest news and gathering around the table, feasting together. Over time, this tradition has changed a little and eating out together as a family is the norm for some, or time to take an occasional break and reward yourself time away from the kitchen.

Whatever your reasons, considering the government restrictions in force, it's time to book as there are currently limited seating numbers. This could all change, and let's hope, for the better. The other good thing about eating out, is not picking at the food all day long and having regrets over the new year. Plus there's no washing up and cleaning up to do. There are pluses to both traditions. Below is a compilation of a few events, and no doubt if you do a search, you'll find a whole lot more. Being able to book and get in on Friday 25 December 2020 is the challenge here.

11.30am to 1pm & 2-4pm (2 seatings) - Middle Park Hotel , 102 Canterbury Rd, Melbourne. A 3 course menu with tasting plate entree, choice of main, shared sides and dessert. $120pp/$35 kids. Menu here . Book here .

11.30am & 2pm (2 seatings) - The Wharf Hotel , 18-28 Siddeley St, Melbourne. A 3 course traditional Christmas feast with delicious mains to share, like bourbon & apricot glazed ham, traditionally stuffed turkey with all the trimmings on the side, and a pudding and custard. Adults $95/$25 Kids age 5-14. Kids under 5 FREE. Menu and booking .

11.30am or 2pm sitting - The Crafty Squire , 127 Russell St, Melbourne. A 3 course lunch at $95pp/$35 for kids 12 and under. Menu / Vegetarian menu / Booking .

12-3pm - The Bridge Inn Hotel , 1425 Plenty Rd, Mernda. A 3 course set menu - $120 Adults / $35 Kids 4-12 years / Under 3 Free. Book here or phone between 9am and 5pm on 9037 1800. A deposit of 50% is required on booking, with full payment due by 16 Dec 2020. Adult 5 Course Set menu here .

11.30am - O'Connell's Centenary Hotel , 407 Coventry St, South Melbourne. A 3-course lunch with individual mains and sharing style entrees, sides and desserts for $155pp. Kids are welcome to enjoy a special half portioned main while sharing the entrees, sides and desserts with the adults for $55pp. Menu here .
