Christmas Community Events are popping up all over Brisbane this festive season. They're a great way to connect with family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Most are free or low-cost and support worthy charities. Check out our list of top Christmas Community Events happening around town this year.

Inner City

IGA Lord Mayor's Christmas Carols

When: Saturday 12th December 2015, 5 9:15pm
Where: Riverstage, Gardens Point Road, Brisbane
Cost: Free

A Brisbane Christmas tradition, the Lord Mayor's Christmas Carols in the city botanic gardens have been drawing large crowds for decades. This year's feature artists include Troy Cassar-Daley, Rachael Beck, Christine Anu, Alexa Curtis and for the kids Lah-Lah's big loud band. If you don't want to wait to watch them on TV make sure you get down to the Riverstage early to secure the best spots. Check the event website for further information.

Lord Mayor's Seniors Christmas Parties

When: Monday 30th November Friday 4th November 2015, 9 11:15am & 12 2:15pm
Where: Brisbane City Hall, 64 Adelaide Street, Brisbane CBD
Cost: All tickets $5

Enjoy high tea, music, dancing, and performers in the beautiful surrounds of Brisbane City Hall. Bookings are essential. Tickets can be purchased through the Ticketek website or by phoning 13 28 49.

Christmas Cinema Series

When: Thursday 17th - Wednesday 23rd December 2015, from 6:30pm
Where: Streets Beach, Southbank Parklands, South Brisbane
Cost: Free

Take advantage of the glorious Brisbane Summer nights by watching a movie under the stars at the pop-up Christmas outdoor cinema on Streets Beach. A range of family Christmas favourites will be screening throughout the series including The Muppet Christmas Carol, Elf, and It's A Wonderful Life. Check the event website for a full list of screenings, and in the event of cancellation due to poor weather check the Southbank Parklands Facebook and Twitter updates. Bookings are not required.

Christmas Fireworks Spectacular

When: Thursday 17th December Monday 21st December 2015, 8:15 8:25pm
Where: Southbank Parklands, South Brisbane
Cost: Free

Christmas In The Park

When: Saturday 28th November 2015, 4 8pm
Where: Pine Rivers Park, Gympie Road, Strathpine
Cost: Free

Christmas comes early to Pine Rivers Park. There's something here for the whole family rides, markets, food stalls, and entertainment on and off the main stage. Visit Santa's Village (gold coin donation) to see the Christmas Tree competition, animal farm, face painting, kids Christmas craft workshops and Santa. On stage throughout the afternoon and evening you'll find local performers as well as Jimmy Giggle, Bananas in Pyjamas and Tim Campbell. The evening program will finish with a bang with a massive fireworks spectacular. See the Moreton Bay Regional Council's website for further details.

Road To Bethlehem

When: Monday 14th December Wednesday 16th 2015, Gates open 6pm
Where: Watson Park Convention Centre, 337 Old Gympie Road, Dakabin
Cost: Free

Step back in time to the first Christmas. Begin the evening in old Bethlehem, then join your 1 hour walking tour (wheelchair and stroller friendly) through the streets of town. In the immersive theatrical experience you'll encounter shepherds, Wisemen, angels, Roman soldiers, and of course baby Jesus. There will be market stalls, live entertainment, animals, and kids activities. Bookings open from Monday 30th November. Full details can be found here.

Christmas In Sandgate

When: Saturday 5th December 2015, 4 8:30pm
Where: Einbunpin Lagoon Park, 21 Lagoon Street Sandgate
Cost: Free

Come on down to Einbunpin Lagoon Park to celebrate Christmas. There will be kids activities such as face painting rock wall climbing, jumping castle, and outdoor movie 'Paddington'. The barbeque will be fired up and the big Christmas tree will be lit up. For more information check the Brisbane City Council website.


Christmas At The Creek

When: Saturday 5th December 2015, 5 8pm
Where: Cedar Creek Hall, 1 Chardon Bridge Road, Cedar Creek
Cost: Free

Logan City's Cedar Creek community will host a family friendly Christmas Carols. There will be a sausage sizzle, cakes and drinks for sale, face painting, craft, and party bags for the kids to enjoy. Carols commence at 7pm. Check the event Facebook page for updates.

Annerley Junction Fair

When: Saturday 5th December 2015, 9am 2pm
Where: Annerley Junction, Corner of Annerley & Ipswich Roads, Annerley
Cost: Free

Browse the shops and sidewalks of Annerley and Ipswich Roads at this community fair. Filled with stalls with delicious treats, handmade Christmas goodies, and a good dose of Christmas cheer. Christmas 4 Kids

When: Saturday 5th December 2015, 10am 1pm
Where: Unidus Community Centre, 204 Sherbrooke Road, Willawong
Cost: Free

This event keeps getting bigger and better each year. Bring the family along to enjoy a day of games, music, food, face painting, and live entertainment. Check the event website for details.


Christmas By Starlight

When: Sunday 20th December 2015, 4 8:30pm
Where: Sirromet Winery, 850 Mount Cotton Road, Mount Cotton
Cost: Free

Bring your picnic blanket along to relax on the green and enjoy the views out to the islands of Moreton Bay. Afternoon kids activities will include face-painting, jumping castle and an animal zoo. Stay into the evening for the Christmas show hosted by The Block's Shelley Craft, and fireworks. Click here for more information.

Carols In The Bush

When: Sunday 13th December 2015, 5 7:30pm
Where: IndigiScapes, 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba
Cost: Free

Bring the kids along to the children's program from 5pm; carols start at 6pm. Why not indulge in the free sausage sizzle for dinner. Bring your own rug or chair and don't forget to pack your insect repellent. Find out more from the Indigiscapes website.

Wakerley Rotary Christmas Carols

When: Saturday 5th December 2015, 3 9:30pm
Where: Dianthus Street (South) Park, 22 Dianthus Street, Wakerley
Cost: Free

Browse market stalls of arts and crafts just in time for Christmas gift shopping. Enjoy live music, rides and evening fireworks. There will even be a special appearance from Santa. For more information check the Brisbane City Council website.


Christmas Extravaganza

When: Saturday 28th November 2015, 4-8pm
Where: Frew Park, 317 Milton Road, Milton
Cost: Free

Come along to this Christmas community event with free rides, face painting, live music, movie on the big screen (Big Hero 6), and to see the man himself, Santa. Support the Bardon Lions Club's sausage sizzle (gold coin donation) by treating the family to dinner in the park or pack your own picnic. Remember to bring your blanket or chairs. Centenary Community Carols

When: Sunday 6th December 2015, 4 8pm
Where: Peter Lightfoot Oval, Horizon Drive, Middle Park
Cost: Free

Join the Centenary Salvation Army for this community Christmas event. There will be baby animals, a jumping castle, twilight markets, food vans, carols, fireworks, and Santa's Sleigh. Check the event Facebook page for details.
