My favourite time of the year to visit the city is Christmas. It's the most wonderful time of the year; Christmas carollers on the corner, decorations decking the mall, and a twinkling tree towering over King George Square.

Join Brisbane's Lord Mayor Graham Quirk at King George Square on Friday, November 30 when Australia's largest solar-powered Christmas tree is lit up. Family entertainment includes Christmas carols and a visit from a very special guest – Santa. This free, festive event starts at 6:45pm with the tree to be lit at approximately 7:15pm.

Another family favourite is the IGA Lord Mayor's Carols in the City at Riverstage in the City Botanic Gardens. Held on Saturday, December 8 from 7:15pm until 10:15pm, the stellar line-up this year includes Troy Cassar-Daley, Paulini, Debra Byrne, Colin Buchanan, and New Empire. Free sample bags will be handed out to the first 6,000 through the gate. Gates open at 5pm.

The BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market at King George Square on Friday, December 14 is the perfect place to buy unique gifts created by local artisans for the special people in your life. These markets, lit by lanterns, take place from 5pm to 9pm.

Myer's popular Christmas Parade & Pantomime returns this year, from December 14 to 23. Each night from 6:30pm, the parade will travel through Queen Street Mall from the Edward Street end and finish in King George Square where an all-singing, all-dancing pantomime will take place.

During the silly season, the city streets are alive with the sound of music - Christmas music. Street corner carollers will be spreading some Christmas cheer from 8am to 9:20am each weekday from November 30 to December 24.

The Christmas Music Showcase will feature Swing Central, The Australian Girls Choir, and The Andrew Sisters Tribute Band performing on Queen Street Mall between 11:30am and 5:30pm daily, from November 30 to December 24.

'Tis the Season is a Christmas concert in the Roma Street Parklands with the Brisbane Symphonic Band, joined by singers and dancers from Youth Performing Arts Company. This free, family event will take place on Sunday, December 2 from 5pm to 6pm.

Carols in Brass with South Brisbane Federal Band is another Christmas concert, performed at twilight on the verandah of Old Government House (QUT Gardens Point Campus) overlooking Lady Bowen Lawn. This free concert will be held on Friday, December 14 from 6pm to 7pm.

And finally, finish your last minute Christmas shopping at World By Night. Held on Friday, December 21 from 5:30pm until 9:30pm, this annual event features markets, music, and more.
