In the spirit of giving for the festive season, a
smorgasbord of family favourite films for free sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Hosted by
South Bank, Brisbane , you'll find
Christmas Cinema running from
Fri 14 to Sun 23 December 2018 every night from 8.15-10pm at South Bank Parklands, Brisbane. Surround yourself with movie munchies, grab a drink and kick back on
River Quay 's inviting lawn, prepared to chill. River Quay is licensed, so anyone over 18 years of age are welcome to bring their favourite drop along with their meal.

Southbank Brisbane have a lot of other
Christmas events running simultaneously, all at the South Bank Parklands as well, like the
Christmas Gift Market , also from
Fri 14 to Sun 23 December 2018 from 3-10pm each day. Filled with a treasure trove of unique trinkets amongst a ribbon of cheerful stalls, you'll find jewellery, homewares, stationery and more. There'll also be tastebud-tempting market fare to snack on, so if you're heading there before the movies, you could grab a bite to eat or take it with you.
Santa will be onsite every single day next to Flowstate between 4.30 and 8.30pm and visiting with Santa and entry to the Market won't cost you a thing!
Carols by Twilight also runs on the same dates from
14-23 Dec, 6-8pm each night, to really put you in the Christmas spirit. You'll have time before the movies to enjoy the
Market and the
Carols as you settle in by the gently-lapping Brisbane River to listen to Christmas carol classics as the sun goes down. All sessions are free to watch and listen to, with great musicians like the
Brisbane City Gospel, Brisbane Concert Orchestra, Voices of Biralee, Queensland Show Choir, Cigany Weaver, SCAT Jazz, Viva La Musica, Frankly Smart, The Salvation Army and
PocketLove, entertaining you.
If you're at
Southbank Parklands on the nights from
20-23 December, 8-8.15pm, you'll catch some spectacular
Christmas Fireworks . Free to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas, enjoy an energetic, celebratory hub with shimmering fireworks whizzing, dancing and bursting above. The
Clem Jones Promenade will give you the
crème de la crème of views, though there are other popular viewing locations like
Streets Beach, River Quay and the
Cultural Forecourt. To ensure safe crowd flow, please note that chairs and other types of portable seating are not permitted on the
Clem Jones Promenade.
Kiddies don't miss out on a thing! Aside from all of the above, they can also enjoy
Holly Jolly Kids at
Southbank Parklands for free, from
14-23 Dec as well, 3-7pm each afternoon. Especially designed for kids,
Aerial Angels will be running an
Elf Academy on the
Little Stanley Street Lawn. There'll be daring activities that'll make your child a qualified elf, fit for a stint in Santa's workshop. An acrobatic odyssey of flipping, twirling and tumbling through the air,
Aerial Angels will give the kids skills to hula hoop, juggle, tightrope walk and aerial trapeze, all handy skills if they want to be like Santa.
If you prefer to be earthbound, there will be street performances from the experts themselves, running acrobatic performances throughout the afternoon and evening. If the kids are not quite acrobat age, they can join the
craft and dance classes and make ornaments with a special Parkland twist from
3-7pm, plus learn delightful choreography from
Queensland Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. from
3-6.30pm.
If you absolutely cannot wait till late December for some entertainment,
Saturday 1 December from 2-7pm is calling your name.
The Sound Society will have first dibs on
South Bank Parklands at this free event, before the festive season program as above, takes over. Ease into the weekend with tasty eats and free live music at the
South Bank Piazza with
Innocent Eve from
2-4.15pm and
Neighbour from
4.45-7pm. Bring your own picnic or grab a bite to eat from one of the onsite food vendor
