Christmas movies on the big screen at South Bank's beach
Everyone loves a good Christmas movie. They range from the completely comic to the salutory life lesson but there's something about seeing fun and festive antics on the screen that just banishes the Scrooge in all of us. And while we may revel in the usually wintry escapades presented on screen, in Brisbane's summer we can enjoy all the fun on the big screen outdoors at the city's only beach. Everyone is welcome to celebrate a Brisbane Christmas at Christmas Cinema Series at South Bank's Streets Beach from Thursday 17 December to Wednesday 23 December.
This a free family friendly event where the focus is on movies for the kids. Twelve Christmas movies have been selected for this year's program but be warned; it's going to be hard to choose between introducing your kids to Christmas in a simpler time in the life affirming classic, It's a Wonderful Life and more modern but perennial favourites like The Santa Clause, starring Tim Allen as a reluctant Santa, and Will Ferrell as the hapless and clumsy Elf. And there's also my own personal seasonal favourite, The Muppets Christmas Carol.
You can claim a patch of grass or spread towels on the sand and even bring your own picnic to enjoy under the stars. If the water beckons you can even dive right in and watch while lazing in the lagoon with the Brisbane city skyline as the picture perfect backdrop.
Bookings are not required and all movies are FREE.

Of course the one thing that can throw a spanner into all this Brisbane Christmas fun is the chance of summer storm activity. Since this is an outdoor event if the weather is bad the cinema may be cancelled. Any cancellations will be notified on South Bank's Facebook and Twitter pages.
