The sun is finally shining, school is finishing up for the year, and the shops are getting hectic. It can only mean one thing - Christmas is coming!

The festive season on the Fleurieu Peninsula commences with the City of Onkaparinga Christmas Pageant . The parade travels along Beach Road at Christies Beach on Sunday, November 24 at 10 am followed with family-friendly activities and entertainment including live music, face painting, and a sausage sizzle in Rotary Park.

Along with plenty of colour and Christmas cheer, the pageant also brings Father Christmas to the Fleurieu, who will be meeting and greeting children at shopping centres in the area, like Centro Colonnades, throughout December.

Furbabies won't miss out either because PETstock at Noarlunga is taking bookings for pet photos with Father Christmas. The photos will be taken on Saturday, November 30 from 10 am until 2 pm and Sunday, December 1 from 11 am until 4 pm for a gold coin donation to the Animal Welfare League.

Then there is Once Upon A Market on Sunday, December 8 from 11 am until 3 pm at the Seaford Recreation Centre on Grand Boulevard. It's a great place to get some Christmas gift shopping done with lots of interesting stalls and activities for children, such as balloon twisting, jumping castle, face painting, and a visit from Father Christmas.

One of the biggest events of the season is the Colonnades Southern Community Christmas Carols on Sunday, December 15. The South Adelaide Football Club hosts the event and is known for putting on an impressive fireworks display. There will be entertainment for the kids at 6.40 pm before the carols begin at 7.30 pm. Entry to the event at Hickinbotham Oval on Lovelock Drive is only a gold coin donation.

The rolling hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula will be alive with the sound of Christmas as carol events are held by community groups throughout the area. The City of Onkaparinga provides a complete list of carols nights happening nearby, including the McLaren Region Community Carols held at the Tatachilla Lutheran College oval on Sunday, December 8 from 6 pm onward.

Carols on the Square at Market Square in Old Noarlunga is on Sunday, December 15. It's worth wandering around Old Noarlunga in December once the sun has set as the town puts on an impressive Christmas lights display with many houses along the main street going to great effort to light up the neighbourhood.

For Christmas tree decorating inspiration, head to the Willunga Christmas Tree Festival at Bethany Hall on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1 from 10 am until 4 pm. There will be over 60 decorated Christmas trees on display as well as craft stalls and activities for all. Entry costs $3 for adults (children are free) with proceeds going to the Christmas Bowl Appeal.

The Willunga Waldorf School Christmas Market is the place to go to stock up on beautiful hand-crafted gifts to fill the stockings. There will be craft and food stalls, activities for children, and Christmas carols on Tuesday, December 10 from 2 pm until 6 pm.

The Band of the South Australian Police Christmas Concert is on Saturday, November 30 at Centenary Hall in Goolwa and Friday, December 6 at the Hopgood Theatre at Noarlunga Centre. Tickets to see Australia's oldest police band perform classic carols and sing-along songs are priced from $15 to $19.

The Goolwa Christmas Festival is a free event that that features a pageant, children's entertainment, carols, a visit from Father Christmas, and finishes the night off with fireworks. It takes place along Cadell Street and at the Arthur Neighbor Reserve on Sunday, December 8 at 6.30 pm.

Strathalbyn celebrates the festive season with Christmas Where the Angas Flows . The free event is held on Dawson Street and at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens. It includes a pageant, live entertainment, and fireworks on Friday, December 13 starting at 6.30 pm.

Then on Saturday, December 14 at 6.30 pm Father Christmas will attend the Victor Harbor Christmas Pageant along Ocean Street, which will be followed with Carols by the Sea and a fireworks display.

The Fleurieu Peninsula finishes the festive season off with a bang at the People's Choice Credit Union New Year's Eve Celebrations on Tuesday, December 31 from 7 pm until midnight. The free event in Victor Harbor features live music, lots of activities for the kids, and a giant fireworks spectacular.

Normanville will host its 16th Annual New Year's Eve Pageant on the foreshore off Jetty Road. From 7.30 pm onwards there will be approximately 40 floats, a DJ, lots of food provided by local community groups, and of course, a fireworks display.

With beautiful beaches, wonderful wineries, and fantastic festivals just a 45 minute drive south of Adelaide, the Fleurieu Peninsula is the perfect place to escape the city and celebrate Christmas.
