Scarborough is set to sparkle throughout December with 10 huge Christmas trees lighting up the streets, and roving street carolers spreading Christmas cheer and song in the shopping village. Both of these festive delights are thanks to non-profit group Scarborough Lights, whose aim is "bringing back that old fashioned Christmas spirit".
We could all use a good dose of old fashioned Christmas spirit and what better way to self medicate than at the annual Christmas By The Sea event - run by Scarborough Lights in conjunction with Moreton Bay Regional Council on Saturday 1st December, 2012.
From noon the whole family can enjoy 8 hours of action packed Christmas festivities including shopping at the markets, camel rides and an animal farm, kid's rides and jumping castle, free face painting and Christmas craft activities.
Santa will hit the stage at 5.30pm and be followed by a glittering array of performances including twilight carols and the Christmas Show. The event will culminate in a fireworks spectacular sure to light up the sky and ignite your Yuletide spark.
Bring a picnic lunch or dinner, select from tempting market fare, or dine at one of the many local cafes and restaurants. And be sure to bring a picnic rug so that after the excitement of the markets and rides, the family can relax under the stars, enjoy the concert and soak up some of that old fashioned Christmas spirit.
