Christmas Carols With A View
When was the last time you reclined on a picnic rug enjoying the bay breezes whilst being entertained by live music?
If it's been a while, here is the perfect opportunity, keeping the family happy at the same time.
Redland City Council is once again hosting Christmas by Starlight at Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton, on Sunday, 18th December.
This annual event has evolved over the years, from a handful of locals listening to school children singing carols in a parkland, to the swish affair that it has since become. This year stars include Christine Anu and Thirsty Merc, who will be joined by some of Australia's other finest voices, including top musical theatre star Amanda Harrison of Les Miserables and Wicked fame, jazz vocalist Emma Pask, The Voice Australia's finalist Ellen Reed, opera singer Billy Bourchier, orchestrator and singer Craig Allister Young, souls and blues singer Angela Fabian, The Voice Kids 2014 winner Redlands' own Alexa Curtis and young Redlands soprano Leah Lever.
So grab the picnic rug and load the family into the car, as this family-friendly event promises a great evening of fun and entertainment.
The event will begin at 3.00pm with an afternoon of free children's activities including jumping castles and face painting. There will be a variety of food, drink and merchandise stalls hosted by local not-for-profit community groups and licensed commercial operators.
At 5.30pm, a special children's Christmas show will entertain audiences, followed by the professionally-produced carols concert.
The event will conclude at around 8:15pm with a fireworks display.
Entry is FREE, though remember to take a few spare gold coins if you would like to donate to programs which support those in domestic violence situations.
Ample car parking is available at Sirromet Winery. Please be patient and allow extra time for entering and leaving the venue. Disabled parking will be available. There will also be Parking Officers onsite directing traffic.
If you really want to relax, free buses will run direct to Sirromet Winery from various suburbs in Redland City making Christmas by Starlight accessible to everyone. For Stradbroke Island residents, a free water taxi supplied by Stradbroke Ferries will run from Toondah Harbour to North Stradbroke Island at approx 9:15pm.
Buses will depart from:
1. Redland Bay, Victoria Point and Thornlands at 3:20pm from Redland Bay Marina
2. Thornlands, Cleveland and Alexandra Hills at 3:15pm from Thornlands Dance Hall
3. Ormiston, Wellington Point, Birkdale and Capalaba at 3:00pm from Ormiston Station
4. Victoria Point, Redland Bay, Mount Cotton at 3:00pm from Victoria Point interchange.
