Christmas is almost here. It's the time to put your tree up and enjoy the twinkle and sparkle of Christmas lights.
If you love big Christmas trees, then a visit to Adelaide's
Mortlock Library should be at the top of your list.
Visit the tree and view it from the ground and 1st level. It really is quite magnificent. But, there are other fun things that you can do while visiting Mortlock and there's a prize to be won for taking a selfie!
Take a seat under the tree in the reading nook to read Christmas stories to your little ones.
Visit the Christmas displays and take the Mortlock Treasures challenge.
There are
12 Mortlock Treasures to discover. Grab a bookmark from the Welcome Desk at the
State Library main entrance or find one within the Mortlock Chamber.
The bookmark will lead you to 12 Christmas objects in the display cases.
Take a selfie and use one of these special Mortlock Christmas hashtags to go into the running for a special behind-the-scenes State Library experience.

Alberton: Wednesday 1st December, 10 am to 11.30 am
Brighton: Thursday 2nd December, 10 am to 11.30 am
Golden Grove: Friday 3rd December, 11.30 am to 12.30 pm
The Mortlock Wing is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world and has been ranked alongside other architectural greats in Prague, Sweden, Vienna and Venice to name a few. It made the Huffington Post's
Top 5 list of the World's Most Beautiful Libraries in 2016.
Open from: Monday 15th November 2021 to Sunday 9th January 2022 (not open on Public Holidays)
Open times: Monday and Tuesday: 8 am to 7 pm, Wednesday to Friday: 8 am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon to 5 pm
Getting there: The Mortlock Chamber is within the State Library of South Australia. Go up the stairs from the main entrance, turn north and a short walk will take you into the chamber.
Cost: Free, no bookings required
Bring the kids and have a fun day out. The tram stops outside the Library and there are beautiful grassy areas out the front to have a picnic lunch. It's a wonderful time of year to spend some time in the city.
