The silly season is drawing close if not already started. Last year I sat on the couch after dinner watching TV when the power of social media alerted me of this market I knew nothing about! Fortunately it ran till 10pm and straight up the hill we went. Last year it was the first ever Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt. A lovely Christmas market in our very own German village.
The organizers did a fabulous job last year and I expect this year to be just as good if not better. All the stalls were decorated uniformly by the organizers. It made an impact, I felt like I was stepping into a German Christmas Market wonderland. They have definitely managed to reproduce the European-style Christmas market.
There you'll find plenty of vendors selling food products, gifts, homeware, accessories, jewellery, Christmas treats, ornaments and clothing. I treated myself to a few Christmas baubles last year. It's a great place to do some last minute gift shopping or even stocking fillers!
Don't worry about going hungry as food and drink vendors will be there. This year there will be the likes of Weinerbago, Deutschen Delectables, Dutch Pancakes, Design Your Donut, Just Chips, Flavoursome Floss, Loberthal Bierhaus and more. While in Hahndorf, of course we filled up with German Kransky plate! The atmosphere is great with music playing, fairy lights and stars everywhere that lit up the night when the sun went down to make it even more magical.
Stay on if you can for Christmas carols towards the end of the night.
This year it will be held from Friday 12 December to Sunday 14 December. The market will run from 5pm - 10pm on Friday and Saturday, 12pm - 5pm on Sunday so head over and fill yourself with the Christmas spirit.
