My husband and I recently moved west to Perth. We are excited to explore all this gorgeous city and state have to offer. As I discover things I shall share them with you. If you like an article "heart" it and subscribe to see more.
Debuting his first solo show 'Bolloxed' at Perth Fringe World, UK comedian Christian Elderfield is not new to comedy. He began performing stand-up in 2011 and in 2013 he appeared on Britain's Got Talent where he received a "Yes" from the 4 judges and we know how much it takes to impress Simon Cowell. He certainly impressed the Perth Fringe World audience when he performed at The Game Sports Bar in Northbridge.
Christian lamented he doesn't have an exotic background he could draw on for ethnic jokes, well, except for being British and living with a father who was cheap and emotionless, which he used to his comedic advantage.
As a Brit, he views Australian idiosyncrasies and customs from a unique outsider's perspective. He reflected on the hilariously strange and quirky Australian ways and had the audience in fits of laughter as he described Australia's most dangerous creatures - swooping magpies and the bizarre practice of dumping our hard rubbish on the nature strip for collection. Oh, and of course, Australian customs agents' ferocious attitude to imported fruit.
Christian engaged with the crowd from the beginning, canvassing the audience to find out where they came from or what they did. Armed with this information he joked, various content of his show would have to be vetoed - South African jokes - out, Cop jokes - out. Rather than torment the audience with his knowledge, Christian skilfully wove their information into his comical repertoire.
