Chow House on James Street - how good is it?
While on my daily walk home from work, I decided to change direction and pass by James Street in the Valley.

The 'it' spot for trendy shoppers, great produce (although on a little on the pricey side) and of course people watching, the busy street is continuously changing.

The latest transformation is Chow House (beside the cinema). As the name indicates, many of the dishes are Asian influenced. The décor is fresh, stylish and perfect for Queensland as it features ample alfresco seating, lots of earthy red timber and potted plants creating that summery, outdoors touch.

After something light, my friend and I opted for two dishes, the calamari and chicken spring rolls. We ordered a lemon lime bitters each to wash it down, which was served in a large glass and everything a refreshing drink on a hot summer day should be. I wouldn't order the calamari again as the portion size was small and without the dipping sauce, which was rather tasty, the calamari itself was bland. The chicken spring rolls however were large, filled with juicy chicken and also served with a tasty dipping sauce.

The table next to us ordered a variety of dishes, wine and dessert – enough to give me serious food envy and the desire to return another weekend to sample more of the Chow House dishes. The total bill was $38. Not bad for two drinks and two light plates, although I imagine, a couple of wines would bump up the bill significantly. It is James Street, after all.
