Get out of the shower and into a choir
Love to sing in the shower but not sure you've got what it takes to sing in public? Why not join a choir and find out?

Studies have shown that singing in a choir can also improve your mental health and actually make you happier.

So take a deep breath, get your best "do, re, mi" ready and check out one of these audition-free choirs in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. All you need is the ability to hold a tune.

1. East City Sound

This women's harmony chorus is for those who love to sing unaccompanied in a barbershop style.

Rehearsals are Thursday nights at 7:30 pm at St Stephens Anglican Church, Phyllis St, Bayswater, followed by a cuppa and a chat. Contact details here.

2. The Melbournaires Harmony Chorus

The Melbournaires is an award-winning men's barbershop chorus which performs regularly throughout Melbourne and comprises around 50 voices.

They rehearse weekly on Monday evenings at 7.30pm at Doncaster East Uniting Church, 152 Anderson's Creek Road, East Doncaster. Visitors are welcome. Contact details here.

3. Box Hill Chorale

If you want the opportunity to sing a variety of music with professional orchestras, including the great classical composers, this one is for you. With the dynamic Andrew Wailes as your conductor you'll have the chance at a brilliant musical education and realise your full potential as a chorister.

Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7.45pm to 10.00pm in the 'Arbour' of the Box Hill Community Arts Centre. Contact President Susan Braybrook at info@boxhillchorale.org.au for more information.
