Oh how excited I was when saw a Facebook friend tag themselves at a San Churro 's, not in Sydney, not in Melbourne, but right here in Brisbane and just a few suburbs away in Southbank. Finally! Sydneysiders and Melbournites have long since enjoyed the intoxicating hot chocolates and deep-fried goodness of churros dipped in melted chocolate that San Churro provides and it's about time Max Brenner had some competition in the chocolate cafe area.

Arriving in time to serve up hot cocoas on chilly winter nights, San Churro has opened their doors on Grey Street, just a few doors down from the Cineplex. Open until 1am on Friday and Saturdays and 11pm every other night, it's the perfect end to a dinner and movie date in Southbank. Expect to have to wait to be seated, as I'm sure everyone in Brisbane will be keen to try out chocolate and churros, but it's worth the wait.

I convinced my partner we needed to visit for dessert immediately and, remembering our delicious experiences at San Churro in Melbourne, he was quick to assent. We decided to indulge ourselves, going for hot chocolates ($7 each) and a tapas plate of churros and 'chocolate delights' ($20) Of course, we weren't satisfied with plain hot chocolate but went for the Peanut Butter Melt, a steaming cup of couverture chocolate with a spoon full of peanut butter and chocolate, and a Hot & Cold, hot cocoa with a scoop of ice-cream. The tapas plate turned out to be a complicated order, as we had to choose our truffles, ice-cream flavour and melted chocolate type but this just served to increase our anticipation. The 'chocolate delights' on our tapas plate turned out to be chocolate pretzels and peanut butter cups which, unsurprisingly, we couldn't finish after licking our hot chocolate mugs clean and hoovering every morsel of the churros and truffles.

We were served by surprisingly cheerful waitresses, bright and cheery though it was late at night and they were very busy. I guess I would be cheery too if I got to breathe in chocolate fumes all night at work. Though we left feeling at least five pounds heavier, I cannot wait for an excuse to return for more.
