The Chocolate Mill is a small "chocolate factory" located five minute out of Daylesford. Here, imported Belgium chocolate is processed into various products including truffles and various types of handmade chocolates. Free demos of the chocolate making process are held daily at 11am and 2pm. However, chocolate making happens throughout the day so you can still see how they make chocolate even if you miss the scheduled sessions. Sadly, the Mill does not give out free samples.
Aside from chocolate making, the Mill also runs a cafe which serves delicious hot chocolate, ice cream and cakes. The hot chocolate were $5 for a generous mug and essentially consists of melted Belgian chocolate, topped with milk and froth. Dark seems to be the most popular option, but each of the four flavours (milk, dark, white and spicy dark) are worth trying. If you go on a warm day, ice cream is a great choice. For $3 you can get two large scoops of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate or strawberry) topped with real chocolate which becomes solid like Ice Magic.
The Mill is a quirky place to be. The building itself is a house of straw - literally made with bales of straw. Inserted into the walls are hundreds of blue and green glass bottles which seems to let light in. The outdoor dining area is decorated with metal crafted owls and more. There is also a small playground outside to keep children entertained.
