Chocoholic Tours have been running since 1995, offering a number of sweet-toothed walking journeys through the heart of Melbourne on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

My son is every bit as chocolate obsessed as I, so what better way to celebrate his birthday, than to accompany his mum on Chocoholic Indulgence Walk on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon?

The Indulgence Walk begins at midday and runs for approximately two hours. My son and I met with our fellow chocoholic peers at New Zealand Natural Ice Cream in Melbourne's QV building. We were first treated to a rich chocolate ecstasy ice cream, the perfect refreshment on a hot Melbourne day.

Our walk includes a further four stops at chocolate eateries throughout Melbourne's iconic arcades, where we taste a variety of sweets including an assortment of white to dark choccies, macaroons, truffles and even a chocolate shot.

At each stop, we enjoy our chocolate treat as our tour guide explains the history behind each chocolate establishment.

As we reach the Block Arcade, we are met by Koko Black's professional chocolatier, and have the opportunity to observe the art of chocolate making through the store window.

In between chocolate tastings, our tour guide points out Melbourne's historic buildings visited throughout the walk, adding an informative distraction to an otherwise sugar infused day.

We finish our walking tour with a seated afternoon tea at Gânache Chocolates, enjoying a decadent chocolate hazelnut mousse cake, washed down with a cup of tea, coffee or water if we wish.

A walking tour may not be a common activity to do with children, although these professionally organised tours attract fanatical chocolate lovers both young and old. Tours are walked at a gentle pace, and are just the right length of time for children to appreciate.

Children under the age of six years old are free when accompanied by a paying adult, and the price is the same as adults for six years and over. Not really suitable for very young children, as prams are not recommended.

If you are looking for something different to do with your chocolate loving child/ren, a day exploring Melbourne's many arcades and chocolate eateries with Chocoholic Tours will be well worth the enjoyable, indulgent journey.
