Get stuffed with chocolate in the laneways
Guide @ Chocoholic Tours
Our helpful guide explaining the chocolate at Haigh's

Since 1995, Chocoholic Tours have been satisfying the cocoa needs of Melbourne's chocolate lovers. The unique afternoon tours help people discover the history of some of the city's most interesting arcades and laneways, whilst also allowing chocoholics to indulge on various copper coloured delights. I went on the 'Chocolate Lovers Tour,' specialising in milk chocolate, and was delighted when at the first stop Haigh's we were each presented with 3 good-sized samples each. After tasting the milk chocolate button, hazelnut slab and liqueur truffle, we hurried into the opulent store to make the most of our 10% discount.

Next was my favourite chocolatier- Lindt- where we were given three of their famous chocolate balls: milk, hazelnut and 'spring.' We then shuffled up the road to Ganache, and listened to the friendly manager describe their chocolatey history whilst chewing on a special truffle decorated as a tram. Maintaining the informative stance, our bubbly guide gave us a brief history of the Paris end of Collins Street and the doctors who dwelled there as we meandered towards Chocolate Box. By this time we were pretty full of chocolate, but not full enough to decline the three delicious samples offered by the store.

Just as the fatigue began to set into our legs we plonked down for a beautifully presented trio of deserts at Koko Black. The elegant café was the perfect relaxing setting for our hot drinks, ice cream and cake as we settled down and got to know the rest of the group a bit better. It had been a wonderful couple of hours spent sampling the best chocolate Melbourne has to offer and learning a bit more about this fabulous city. This tour is definitely a must-do for any Melbournite chocoholics, and if the samples on the day aren't enough for you, the discounts at the stores will definitely leave you with enough of a fix to last you weeks!
