Chinta on Scarborough Beach Road in Doubleview is a piece of paradise - a homewares store and cafe that offers not only glorious food but delightful finds brought back by Robyn and Graham, the owners of Chinta, from Indonesia. As lovers of Indonesia and Bali, Robyn and Graham travel to this region frequently on holidays. Previously, in its former carnation, Chinta was a homewares shop in West Perth, lucky for us, the gregarious and friendly Robyn and Graham decided to add a cafe element and the result is Chinta in Doubleview.
Chinta, which means love in Balinese, is divided into several sections - the cafe and shop is a treasure trove. There is seating outside on the busy Scarborough Beach Road, a tranquil outside garden area, as well as an alcove at the front, where coffee and amazing selection of cafe style food is served.
Scattered amongst the several rooms but predominantly in one main space is the homewares and trinkets section, which features large furniture pieces, clothes and other smaller wares, such as candleholders, fabric napkins, art and jewellery.
Looking at the food, one could not be more impressed by the generous proportions and freshness on offer. I was there for breakfast and had the Bircher Muesli with yoghurt. The presentation was superb and just as equally pleasing was the taste; a perfect start to a busy day. The coffee was on the money too and by looking at the queue waiting for takeaways, the locals are in agreement.
Sundays are busy, Chinta was buzzing when we arrived at around midday, it's definitely a popular spot and you can understand why when you meet the relaxed owners, whose philosophy behind Chinta is to not be greedy and provide affordable goods and food at a reasonable price.
You can enter Chinta from the back entrance or from Scarborough Beach Road. Don't worry about parking - there is plenty behind the shop. A must!
