The on 25 Wood Street was originally built in 1887. Following Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the temple was destroyed and it was rebuilt, refurbished and reopened in 1977.



Discover the sacred tree which is thought to be a direct descendant of the very Bodhi tree that Buddha sat under when he sought enlightenment. You can also see a full-size statue that represents Kwan Yin, Goddess of Mercy, at the front of the temple. The stone lions that guard the entrance were handcrafted in China. They were originally belonged to the Brocks Creek Temple, near Pine Creek .





In the middle of the temple, there is a place where you can light incense. You can buy the incense for $2. The red temple is decorated with low-lit scarlet lanterns. The furnishings of the temple consist of a big altar with two smaller altars on each side, each laid with red embroidery, a ceremonial bell and drum, pennants and banners.



On the big main altar, there are five statues. The central figure represents Almighty God and features a head-dress with pearls suspended in front, symbolising his status. The wooden plaque represents four Saints, great healers and master craftsmen. To the right is the altar of Kwan Yin, Goddess of Mercy whilst on the left is the Saint of Fortune and Prosperity.



People visit this temple daily - please show respect by talking quietly and not taking photos while people are worshipping. The Temple is open every day between 8.00am and 4.00pm. There are no entry fees although donations are appreciated. You can enter the temple from 25 Woods Street entrance or from 8 Litchfield Street.
