Celebrate the Year of the Rat with the MSO

Now in its seventh year, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's Chinese New Year concert has become one of Australia's major cultural highlights.

Held on Friday 31 January at Hamer Hall, this unique musical celebration will be led by eminent Chinese conductor Yi Zhang and feature one of the most important Chinese compositions in the world today.

The Yellow River Piano Concerto is more than music; it's a symbol of the irrepressible spirit of the Chinese people.

Pianist Jieni Wan makes her MSO debut with this passionate and thrilling concerto. Also on the program are works by Melbourne-based Chinese composers Julian Yu and Wanghua Chu.

Please kindly note that it is not Chinese New Year, it is Lunar New Year because some Asian country also celebrate Lunar New Year, not only China.
