The 5th of February marks the start of Chinese New Year and goes until the first full moon of the lunar year. This year, there are a number of different events around Canberra to celebrate the year of the Pig.
Annual Community and Family Festival
The Sakyamuni Buddist Center is again holding their annual event celebrating the year of the pig. The event starts at 6pm with the gourmet veggie stalls opening, there will also a dinner, prayer, crackers and a lion dance as well as performances through the evening.

Lantern Making Workshop
The ACFS is also holding a Lantern making Workshop during Chinese New Year. This workshop is for both adults and children and participates need to bring a cutting board, scissors, ruler and pencil.

China Village at the Multicultural Festival
Once again, there will be the China Village at the iconic multicultural festival. The village will host a number of performances, as well as a number of stalls and activities to celebrate the new year.

Lion dances at Westfield Woden and Belconnen
Lion Dance Parades will be held at 12 pm on Saturday 9 February at Westfield Belconnen and Saturday 16 February at Westfield Woden.

Lantern Festival
Lantern Festivals are often used to mark the end of the Chinese New Year and this year the ACFS is holding a lantern festival. There will be music and other entertainment, homemade lantern competition, lantern parade. Making it the perfect end to Chinese New Year!
