Fortitude Valley Explodes with Firecrackers and Free Fun
chinese, dragon, new, year, february, fortitude, brisbane, valley, celebration
Dragons are considered to be benevolent in Chinese culture.

Bust out your red shirt and get ready to party Chinese style as the valley puts on its prettiest party frock this February the eighth. That's right folks, it's the hotly anticipated celebration full of firecrackers and dancing dragons, Chinese New Year. This annual events always brings a smile to faces from every nation as they descend on Chinatown Mall to celebrate and enjoy the music, the food, the community spirit, and markets.

I'd say this year's celebration is going to go off like a red firecracker! I don't know if anyone recalls, but last year's festivities were unfortunately rescheduled due to those terrible hailstorms that decimated Fortitude Valley and its surrounds. Plus, the number eight is considered very lucky in Chinese culture, so surely people will be even more excited to celebrate the start of the Year of the Monkey.

The beautiful thing about Chinese New Year is, it doesn't just ring in the lunar new year, it's also a chance to celebrate the contribution other cultures make to our rich and vibrant society. As the song goes, 'If everybody looked the same, we'd get tired of looking at each other.'

If you've been going around bragging about your hard-core partying on New Year's Eve, it's time to reassess your skills. Chinese New Year celebrations last for longer than just one night, so you'd better pace yourself! Check out the full list of fun activities for all ages below.
