Circle the 14th-17th of February 2019 in your calendar and prepare your squad for some pip spitting fun. The Chinchilla Melon Festival countdown has begun.

Every two years, Australia hosts one of the largest Melon festivals in the world right here in sunny Queensland. Located in the western part of the Darling Downs region, just a 3 ½-hour drive from Brisbane.

Yes, it is absolutely as gloriously country as it sounds. I have attended twice (so far) and had a blast. Designed to put a smile on your face and lift your spirits this festival is full of hilarious Melon themed activities such as Melon Skiing, Pip Spitting, Melon Bungee and of course Melon Iron Man/Woman Races.

This festival continues to up the ante, becoming bigger and better than the last. The four-day event attracts an ever-increasing amount of global visitors eager to participate in sticky, slippery fun!

My must do suggestions are all the Melon Events, The Farm Tour, Pub Beach Party and the Big Melon Weigh In!

I highly recommend sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable clothes. Chinchilla in February is hot, consider yourself warned! Think road trip, camping, pub beach parties and smashing watermelons kind of adventure. Don't be afraid to dress in your best melon themed attire. Everyone really gets into the spirit of it!

Last year, we met Celebrity Chef Miguel Maestre who participated in several events. 2019 Melon Festival has lined up Australian Native Cuisine specialist, Chef Peter Wolfe!

The 'Melon Weigh In' winner in 2017 was the Sturgess family's entry weighing in at 75kg. Now that is one mammoth melon. Anyone can enter their pride and joy, kids and adults alike gather around the city centre rooting for the largest melon and applauding all the entries.

There are streets full of markets with endless stalls, laser light shows, rodeos, motorbikes, classic car parades and so much more.

It's a good idea to plan ahead and book accommodation well in advance before the hordes of Melonites descend.

Everyone should do Chinchilla at least once! So gather your friends, peeps, family or squad and start organising your trip to the biennial .
