China Style Restaurant

China Style is a casual Chinese restaurant situated between KFC and Animal Orchestra on Grattan Street in Carlton.

When I visited around midday today they were pretty busy. Eventually I was seated at the end of a long table, approximately 10 cm away from the cash register.

With 118 items on the menu including sweet corn soup, Beijing style pork, black bean fried noodles and braised string beans with pork mince and dry shrimp, there's likely to be something for everyone here.

I played it safe with crispy chicken on rice. There was chicken, it was crispy. There was rice and it was rice-y. There were also cucumber and tomato pieces, and there were lots and lots of chicken bones.

It was a generous serving. The plate looked cool, but it was kind of small, making it awkward to eat on without flicking bits of chicken everywhere.

By itself my meal didn't really taste like anything (I should not have played it safe), but I did love the sweet chilli sauce provided, and quickly devoured that with the rice.

Free green tea was provided.

China Style's not bad for a cheap, quick eat in Carlton. Their fried rice has been given good reviews, so maybe I'll try that, sitting outdoors next time.
