Chiltern-Mount Pilot National Park is conveniently located between Beechworth, Chiltern and Yackandandah, three small townships worthy of slow and delightful visits in their own right.

To reach the start of the Mount Pilot Summit Walk, travel on the Beechworth-Chiltern Rd and take a turn onto Old Coach Road. The gravel road is passable by most cars in dry conditions and the corrugation may even give you a free gentle back massage as you travel up to the carpark. Follow the signs to continue on Mount Pilot Lookout Road.

From there, a short uphill walk across an uneven but easy and pleasant path leads to the summit where on a clear day one is rewarded with unobstructed 360-degree views of the lush countryside below. Care is to be taken when wandering on the extensive granite platforms that offer a breathtaking view of the valley, distant rolling hills and extensive forests. A multitude of green, grey and blue hues soothe the eyes and soul as one gazes towards the horizon.

A marker highlights landmarks such as Mount Buffalo and Mount TableTop and the fleeting rock pools atop the summit are a delight.

A few picnic tables welcome travellers near the car park but why not dine with a view on top of the summit!
