Are you thinking cowboy boots, big hats and even bigger hair? If you are, you'll fit right into this year's ChillOut Festival theme 'Queer Country Pride'. Celebrating its 18th birthday over the Victorian Labour Day long weekend, you can look forward to ChillOut's biggest festival ever which further cements their status as the biggest LGBTIQ regional festival in the southern hemisphere. A not-for-profit community based organisation, ChillOut does not only celebrate in this unique setting of regional Victoria, they also help raise money every year for local charities, worthy causes and groups. This year's worthy cause is the Victoria Park Community Hub Redevelopment. Read more about it on the website. Your support is welcome by providing donations to be auctioned at the Slowest Lunch, at The Argus on Friday the 6th of March 2015.
The festival is being celebrated from the 6th to the 9th of March 2015. If you haven't already picked up a festival guide from your local, you can view it online HERE. You will also find events listed on a day to day basis on the website which is also the place to buy tickets to the various events. If you want to get your money's worth you could go for the Big 3 ticket which is a combined ticket for the Bush Dance, Carnival Day and Dance Party. It's strictly limited numbers at the special price of $99 for the lot, however, it's not suitable for under 18's.
A festival like this does not happen without the help of many volunteers. If you'd like to be a part of the festival as a volunteer you can register now on their online registration form. Volunteers are needed to help check tickets, operate the ChillOut bars at Carnival Day, Dance Party and Bush Dance, and a range of other tasks. Volunteers receive free entry to the event they are volunteering for so come along, make friends and be a part of Australia's best-loved rural queer pride festival.
The festival starts with a colourful street parade that celebrates queer country pride. This message of diversity and inclusion will be heading down the main street of Daylesford at 10.30am sharp and concludes by 11.30am. If you want to actually be part of the parade, as long as you support ChillOut's purpose and values and meet their requirements, you can fill out an application form online or download a PDF format and post it out to them after you have completed the application. All parade participants must be at the start area by 9.30am Sunday, no exceptions! Make sure you check out the vehicle and road safety rules as well. Applications for parade entry will only be accepted until 1st March 2015. There will be no 'on the day' registrations available. A $500 prize for best parade entry (community entry only) will be determined by the judges. ChillOut supported parade entries are not eligible to win this prize.
