This unassuming Thai eatery in the quaint suburb of Oatley is a definite crowd pleaser with the locals. Having tried it a few times myself, it's easy to see why the locals keep it busy every night.
The waiters are friendly and welcoming. The menu is your usual Thai fare and you don't have to wait long for your meal. There were 5 of us dining and just as Asian food is meant to be enjoyed, we ordered a variety of yummy dishes to share.
The salt and pepper calamari was golden and crunchy and definitely a winner. Next was the basil chicken with chilli jam. This dish had a strong ginger flavour which went quite well with the thai basil. This would have to be one of my favourite dishes of the night.
The massaman curry with potatoes was full of flavour, but I did find the beef wasn't as tender as it could be. The panang curry with lamb was authentic and delicious with the right kick of chilli.
Overall, the food was quite authentic and very reasonably priced.
Chilli Man restaurant isn't a huge space so it does get very loud when it's a full house. It's not the sort of place you would go for a quiet dinner. If you're like me, you won't really mind the lively din and atmosphere.
We were there on a Tuesday night and whilst it was quite busy the waiters were in no rush to push us out the door. We were able to stay and chat long past the last dish was enjoyed and taken away. I recommend booking a couple of days ahead especially if it's a large group.
By no means the best Thai in Sydney, Chilli Man is more a local favourite that's definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a good Thai restaurant in this part of town.
