As much as I love gelato, I also love Ice pops. And to my surprise as I was walking down to Melbourne Central from the Elizabeth street entrance, I stumbled upon a little shop with the fanciest ice pops I've seen in Melbourne. These fancy Mexican 'paletas' as they are called (which means ice cream on a stick) come in exotic flavours complete with toppings and sprinkles.

So on a warm day after work, I decided to give myself a treat and paid the fancy price of $5 for a paleta (I am going to keep referring them to as paletas as I feel like it justifies the price). I can be pretty boring when it comes to ice cream, as I either prefer really sour/fruity sorbets or basic flavours like chocolate when it comes to milk based ice cream. Looking at the rather exciting menu (example: strawberry and condensed milk) I decided to go for a Lime & Chia Paleta.

The counter itself is like an ice cream counter but instead of tubs full of ice cream there are tubs full of carefully wrapped paletas. The drips and sprinkles which cost an extra $1.50 resemble a frozen yoghurt station. Both dips were chocolate based and I felt like my lime and chia wouldn't quite be right with chocolate so I saved $1.50 (this time).

If you've had actual lemonade with a bit of salt, and I mean freshly squeezed lemon and not the carbonated drink, this was that on a stick. And it was so sour and so lemony it was at my maximum sour capacity as well (and I'm self-proclaimed queen of sour). However, it was also extremely fresh and I enjoyed the tanginess and the lack of artificial sweetness. Judging by my paleta I am guessing the other flavours are just as good. I shall be back for another go with $6.50.

In addition to their paletas, they also sell churros and coffee. I saw someone had ordered churros and it looked pretty delicious. Their paleta range includes three types of paletas; fruity, creamy and premium. So the next time you are in central and feeling particularly lavish I'd recommend trying a ChillBro paleta that is probably fancy enough to debut in a Katy Perry video.
