My regular readers know that I love cafes which are hidden gems. I have discovered a wonderful little cafe tucked away in the Coffs Harbour city centre. It is the perfect place to meet up for coffee (and cake of course) or have a lovely meal at affordable prices. I ate alfresco with a friend in the tranquil outdoor dining area.

The is a community run cafe which provides opportunities and training for people with disabilities. It is open to the general public and everyone from babies to the elderly is welcome to take advantage of the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and to enjoy the range of good quality meals and full disabled facilities. An unexpected bonus is that the garden area is home to a family of tawny frogmouth owls, duck and magpie families in spring, water dragons, and if you are really lucky, you may catch sight of a koala.

is open weekdays from 9.30 am for morning tea, and lunch from 12 noon. It is located in the Community Village at 22 Earl Street in Coffs (behind Coles). Morning Tea is only $7.50 for the yummy cake with a coffee deal. Or you may prefer raisin toast or Devonshire Tea (drink plus scones with cream and jam) for $6.50. You don't have to have the coffee if you order cake, nor tea with the scones. You have the choice of hot chocolate, coffee made by trained baristas how you like it, or tea from a wide selection.

Lunch is from noon to 2.00 pm and is great value from $10.00. Subsidised meals for just $7.50 are available for those who are My Aged Care clients, over 65, or people with disabilities and their carers. They have 3,600 members but that is just a small portion of the general public who visit. Meal deals include battered hoki fillets, steak sandwich and chips, quiche of the day (GF) and chicken and mushroom crepes. Or you may like their fresh mixed sandwiches for $5.00 or the popular toasties for $5.50. Watch out for the daily specials board too. There are gluten-free and vegetarian options such as lentil patty, veggie crepes or quiches. You can keep the kids happy with nuggets and chips or fish and chips. All kids' meals at just $6.50 come with a slice of healthy watermelon.

will cater for meetings, functions, community groups and celebrations. Please note that bookings are required for groups of 10 people or more. They do an extensive range of sandwiches (from traditional fillings to gourmet), mini quiches, hot nibblies, fruit platters and morning teas. Ali, the very friendly manager, is happy to design a menu that suits all your requirements. You can pick up your order or have one of the village rooms catered for. They also do huge Christmas parties throughout December.

Their vision is: A community in which people with disabilities are valued and contributing members. The good food and happy staff are reasons enough to go and chill out at this cafe and their vision just puts the icing on the cake! Every day is special at Chill Out.
