A truly wonderful day is planned for children and families who love theatre, luscious costumes, activities and extraordinary characters, with Brisbane Arts Theatre's very first
Festival of Children's Theatre.
The festival will serve to launch the 2018 Children's Theatre Season at Hardgrave Park on Petrie Terrace on 24th September. From 10am to 2pm visitors to the festival will enjoy:
•
Fairy Tale Grove. Dress up in costumes featured in a wide range of magical children's productions from the past three years at Brisbane Arts Theatre.
•
Story Book Nook. Join Fairy Godmothers-in-training to hear your favourite stories from the 2018 Children's Theatre Season told with larger-than-life expression and drama.
•
Transformation Station. Brisbane Arts Theatre's make-up artists will transform your children into one of their favourite characters from the 2018 Children's Theatre Season.
•
Brisbane's Greatest Vintage Clothing and Costume Sale. At the same time across the road at Brisbane Arts Theatre, costumes from the immensely rich and prolific costume department will on sale. This annual event will keep even the adults entertained, along with the all-important coffee cart and food truck from 9am. So if you're looking for a great one of a kind item, or seeking out that perfect retro outfit, make you way over to the Vintage Clothing and Costume sale early. With a tremendous amount of items that simply must be cleared, everything will be priced to go. No prior viewings are available, so come early on the day to pick up a bargain. Cash and EFTPOS will be accepted.
At midday, the full line-up of the 2018 Children's Theatre Season will be announced, along with a short performance to inspire young audiences. For visitors to Brisbane Arts Theatre's Festival of Children's Theatre, a special bonus gift for subscriptions (tickets for four people to see either three or six children's shows during 2018) will be available on the day.
Timeline for the day

10am – 2pm. Throughout the festival, there will be storytelling, dressups, cupcakes, balloons, favourite characters, sweet treats, cold drinks and a sausage sizzle, theatre tickets for sale and plenty of photo opportunities.
•
10am – 12pm. Segments from the theatre's 2017 shows will be performed on stage.
•
12pm. The theatre's 2018 Children's Theatre Season will be announced, followed by a short performance.
•
2pm. The festival will conclude with a dance party on stage, with a teacher guiding children through the steps.
Who will enjoy the Festival of Children's Theatre?
This will be a low key and small event so that young children (aged 3-9) will enjoy their day in the park. If you have a child who particularly loves theatre and drama, the Festival of Children's Theatre is also a great opportunity to see what will be on stage during 2018 – perhaps providing some inspiration to prepare for an audition!
