In a spirit very fitting for the school holidays - there's a new addition to the Darling Quarter playgrounds, Darling Harbour Sydney. As I walked by on my way to a meeting this afternoon, I was pleasantly (and nostalgically) greeted by carousels, and other funky fun rides that took me straight back to being 10. I really was tempted to buy tickets to a ride.

From spinning teacups decorated with childhood Disney Princesses - Ariel, Snow White, Jasmine all calling out enchantingly - to the Pirate Ship which was the horror and thrill for every child back then. And then, the classic carousel - no carnival would be a carnival without one.

In addition to the lights, the spinning Disney Princesses, the dancing horses, and the swinging Pirate Ship were the joyous laughter of many, many children on the rides.

It was a wonderful surprise indeed.

Ticket prices and other information are:

Fantasy Cups Ride: $4 per person. Minimum age is 2 years. One 2 year old child is able to ride free with one paying adult.

Mini Pirate Ship: $4 per person. Minimum age is 3 years.

Carousel: $4 per person, or a $7 for 2 tickets special. Children 3 years and under must be accompanied.

My thoughts? Race down to Darling Quarter during this week before the school holidays end. Grab a coffee whilst the kids frolic, and enjoy the scent of nostalgia as those carousel lights play on.

Happy Carnival-ing.
