At the tail end of the
Science Week (15-23 August 2015), we are going into
Children's Book Week (22-28 August 2015). It's a bit hard to keep up with all these different celebrations throughout the year, but hey, that's what
Weekend Notes is for, so you know what's happening without having to memorise all of the year's event schedule.
It's not difficult to guess where the Children's Book Week's events will be held. Yes, in any library near you, Sir & Madam. So for something free and easy, check your council's website and you would be sure to find something close to home.
However, if you feel like going into the city, the State Library of Western Australia at the Perth Cultural Centre won't disappoint as they have several free events scheduled for the Children's Book Week.
It starts on Sunday 23 August (2-3pm) with a performance by
Redfoot Youth Theatre titled "Off The Page" which would suit kids 4-12 years old.
After that, there will be two events running throughout the week (Monday to Friday):
Green Screen (11am-12noon): Children can have photos taken which put them on the covers of the nominated books from the 2015 CBCA Book of The Year Awards (Early Childhood). To make it even funner, dress up to go with your chosen book cover.
Book Cubby (12noon-1pm): Children will have an opportunity to become an author and publish their own book.
The regular weekly events at the State Library are also given special treatment this week:
Story Time (Wednesday 26 August 10.30-11am): This is a special story time where the stories chosen will be some of the best of the year (nominated Early Childhood book titles from 2015 CBCA Book of The Year Awards). Come dressed up as your favourite character (and don't go home before having your photo taken on the Green Screen (see above).
Activity Times (Monday 24 August and Thursday 27 August 10am-2pm): These twice-weekly events for children 5 years and up will also have a Book Week theme.
All activities will be held in The Place, Mezzanine Level of the State Library of Western Australia. For more details of events coming up in the State Library, visit their
website .
