Be safe off the beach
We all know the importance of being able to swim in Australia and while many children and adults are competent in swimming in pools, they may not be as competent and confident in swimming in open ocean waters.
Learning how to swim off the beach and being aware of changing conditions as well as safety aspects are all part of the course offered at two locations this summer. Open water swim lessons for children and young people and private lessons and classes are taught by Emma Brown, an experienced Swim Australia qualified swim instructor, at either Balmoral or Camp Cove.
Skills taught at these courses include safety drills, sighting, how to navigate waves and buoys, beach starts and exits and stroke technique plus a practice race. There is additional water safety support for classes.
If you would like to improve your own open water swimming skills in preparation for a race, Emma can help with that too through private lessons.
Emma is holding these classes as part of her fundraising efforts for the
Can Too foundation and in her own words, this is why she does what she does: "
I am supporting cancer research and prevention with Can Too Foundation.1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that potentially someone we love may have to battle cancer, and that's a statistic that needs to change."
"So I asked myself, "what can I do to help?" That's where the Can Too Foundation came in! Can Too provide professionally coached training programs for participants – of any fitness level – to run, swim and cycle their way to a healthier lifestyle and a cancer-free world."
"In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care, and control of cancer. Since 2005, Can Too Foundation have trained over 15,000 participants, raised over $21,000,000 to invest in 168 one-year cancer research grants."
So why not improve your children's (or anyone's really) open water skills and contribute to the worthy work the CanToo foundation are doing? You will feel better for both.
