Kirie and Chigirie are Japanese art forms which uses coloured paper to create beautiful garlands and displays. These techniques date back to the Heian period in Japanese history where washi paper originates.

In this hands on class, you will learn the basics of Kirie which is the art of cutting the paper in very precise shapes with particular techniques. The other style you will learn is Chigirie where you will tear the paper in special ways to make beautiful patterns.

All materials are provided for this class and you will go home with some completed items to decorate your own home. Participants will need to be able to handle scissors and use cutting blades.

The classes take place at The Gardens Club which feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. Look out through large windows into the lush Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.
