I love getting away on the weekend to somewhere I may have not been before, or often. Some friends and I went to the Chidlow Tavern for breakfast last Sunday and I enjoyed the experience so much I thought I would share it with you. The Tavern is situated at 4 Thomas St, Chidlow, WA.
My first impression, as I pull up in the car park outside, is that I am not very impressed with the outside of the building, being quite plain, and hope it is better inside.
Well, what a difference a door can make. As when I walk through the front door I am taken back in time, not only by the comfortable lounge seating and dining tables but by the memorabilia everywhere, which has been tastefully done to add much atmosphere to the Tavern, without seeming overcrowded and cluttered.
We decided to sit out the back as it was still early and a balmy 23 degrees or so. We ordered our meals at the bar, and although it was not an extensive breakfast menu, it is more than sufficient.
My friends all ordered something different, so I got to see a good variety of plates coming out. I have to say that I was suitably impressed, not only by the presentation but that we all loved our breakfast meals. I had the Eggs Benedict and was more than happy with quality, flavour and serving size. Our coffee was lovely and served in the extra-large mugs befitting a pub meal.
Chatting with Norm Brewer, the owner, he tells me that he has made many improvements to the building and contents over the past 9 years he has owned it, and I must say that he has done a splendid job of it too.
