Seaford's Commerical Road is littered with fast food places like McDonald's, Hungry Jacks, KFC and Eagle Boys Pizza. It's nice to see a locally owned small business offering takeaway amongst this crowd. Chicken Legends don't just deal in chicken. You can grab fish and chips, burgers, yiros and hot dogs. They've also got all of your Australian takeaway classics like corn jacks, chiko rolls, spring rolls, dim sims and pineapple fritters.
The store sells Lilydale Free Range Chickens; you can grab a whole or half roast chicken or get extra value with their family meal deals. Grab some thick cut chips (with a good shake of chicken salt) to go with your meal or choose from their salads--there's usually a good range of pasta salads, potato salad, tabbouleh and a waldorf salad to name a few.
You can get your fish battered or crumbed and can choose between butterfish, flake, whiting, garfish or barramundi. Prawns and calamari are also available. They've got everything you'd need from both a chicken shop and a fish and chips shop. They might not be on the beachfront, but it's only about a 3 minute drive if you did want fish and chips at the beach.
One of the highlights of the menu is the burger. They serve the Australian style burger-with-the-lot rather than the American style cheeseburger that's becoming popular in a lot of burger joints around town. It's what you'd expect from your local takeaway except you get a juicy patty and a nice soft bun. It's a big burger and it's pretty filling--especially if you grab some chips on the side. They're by far one of the best burgers in the area.
There's a regular hamburger, but if you get the lot they'll add egg, onion, bacon and cheese. Chicken burgers, fish burgers, vegie burgers and steak sandwiches are also available.
Chicken Legends is not gourmet by any standard, but it's a good, solid takeout joint. Unless you're vegan you'd be hard pressed to be disappointed with their options. They're open 7 days a week from 11:30am till 8:00pm, and you can phone ahead to order from 11:30am till 7:45pm. There's no room in the store to eat in--all orders are takeaway--but the food always stays warm on the drive home.
The staff are friendly and the service is quick, but on some night you might struggle to get a seat while you wait because they can be pretty popular. If you're looking for takeout in the area consider picking somewhere local over the usual suspects of fast food.
