Home of Adelaide's best hot chips
Noted for having the best hot chips in Adelaide, Chicken Chef at Blair Athol is one of two branches in Adelaide that offers a good range of dishes that you can expect to see at a typical takeaway outlet. It is known to get very busy, so ordering ahead is advised if you do not want to wait long for your order to be prepared.

Their chips are notable for being prepared in-store rather than cooked from frozen. This gave them a fluffy interior that was set off wonderfully by the crisp exterior. They were also seasoned by a salt mix that gave them a moreish flavour, making it hard to stop eating at just one.

Their main offerings were also just as enjoyable. The chicken in their Hot Chicken Pack had succulent flesh with a good amount of savoury flavour. For the two salads, we chose to have Coleslaw and a Bolognese Pasta Salad. The cabbage in their Coleslaw was crisp with the dressing not too creamy and the pasta in the Bolognese Pasta Salad was cooked al dente. Their Bolognese Pasta Salad also had capsicum for some sweetness and the dressing tied everything together. Coming with the Hot Chicken Pack was gravy that can be enjoyed with the chicken.

Their Mixed Seafood Pack consisted of a piece of battered fish, two calamari rings and two prawns accompanied with a serving of chips and tartare sauce. None of the seafood tasted fishy and the flesh of the battered fish fillet was easily flaked apart with a fork. While the seafood was tasty enough as it is, a lemon wedge was provided for those that like to add a bit of sharpness to it. Their tartare sauce had a tangy flavour that is different from the normal commercial made ones.

While many customers choose to order for takeaway, there are still a few tables inside for those that choose to dine in. Parking is not a problem with the carpark in front offering convenient off-street parking.

I was going to read this article before lunch, but decided not to as I didn't want to spoil my mundane left-over Chinese lunch. I'm glad I did as the Chicken Chef food looks delicious as a light lunch.
