A newly opened cafe, grocer and bar on Kellett Street in Potts Point. You're not too far away from this chic French establishment if you happen to find yourself in Kings Cross either. Chez Dee is also a short stroll from Kings Cross train station. The vibe is homely and inviting, and not what you would expect from this area. Hail to Chez Dee for bringing this area back from the dead. After all a pleasant surprise comes knocking down on the door of Sydney, and we are pleased to have been handed the keys inside a funky terrace home of food and coffee paradise. Hence this makes way for an amazing home away from home culinary experience. The only problem is you have to pay for it in the end. Never mind about that, every penny you spend on food here is worth it.

A great match made in heaven as owners Denise Fisher (The Titular Dee fame) and Byron Woolfrey (ex Ms G's) join forces to bring us some amazing French food to either eat in or take away. It is so difficult to leave, and this is why it can be difficult to land a great spot of paradise for a moment. Chez Dee is fast becoming known as a cool community hub on this end of Sydney, in tandem with being dubbed a sustenance station.

Move over Thomas Dux, the grocers make way for a variety of different tinned goods from jams to heavenly French cookies. Great home decorating ideas are coming out until it is time to order brunch at the front counter. A communal canteen like table is a real hit, with many locals and their dogs outside. I wasn't too keen on that recently. Time to order and then head upstairs to terrace living paradise. Striking art presents before you turn left the moment you reach the top of the stairs to find your seat. Art that you would normally find on a food truck like Eat Art Truck sticks right out at you. A great living room presents itself with colourful pillows (that India feeling) with a beautiful breeze coming inside. This is when you have permission to be at home, take your sandals off and sit on the couch any way you choose.

My water bottle arrives, no different to a (near) milk bottle look alike. Shortly thereafter my latte ($3.50) arrives on the tiny silver coffee table as I soak in the beautiful ambience, and just how beautifully Parisian the decor is, forgetting that I am in the Kings Cross area. That is a good thing. Beautiful latte art and well brewed crema makes way for a great coffee experience.

The real treat was the poached eggs with sourdough toast, mushrooms and hollandaise sauce ($14.50) being all the rave at Chez Dee. After taking your first bite of heaven, this is arguably Chez Dee's signature brunch dish, and within good reason too. The mushrooms are in their perfect place stacked in between the toast and the eggs. The flavour combinations are spot on. Just the right amount of pepper blends in with the tangy hollandaise. The presentation was stunning with the traditional blue and white patterned plates, combined with traditional French designed cutlery perched in a chocolate brown box where my serviette was also stored.

My advice to you is to drink the coffee while you're waiting for brunch paradise to arrive, and then save up your water supplies for the signature brunch dish that appears to be small, until you tuck in. Despite coming here with an appetite like a raging bull, you will be full at the end of this experience while you (literally) put your feet up (if you happen to be sitting upstairs) and enjoy the time out. Forget about Wi-Fi and forget about your mobile phone. Just enjoy the sensory experience with fine art surrounding you. Another establishment that I am dying to come back to, and one where I found the land of France in Kings Cross difficult to leave, and say goodbye to for now. Thank you Chez Dee for opening first and foremost, and for the fantastic brunch and coffee experience in delighting my mature palette.
