Tony Chu, FDA agent and cibopath (he receives psychic impressions from the food he eats), is actually happy for once. Thanks to a combination of luck and messages from beyond the grave from Tony's twin sister, Toni, Tony and Colby's hallucinogen fueled raid on the pillow factory actually worked out really well for them. There was a secret chicken factory in the basement which turned out to be a great collar for the two of them, and the big bosses are pleased. While at an FDA conference in Vegas, Tony and Amelia celebrate by getting hitched. But this is
Chew, and of course, Tony's happiness can't last.
In exchange for a full pardon, the disgraced Mason Savoy teams up with the FDA once again, and he, Caesar, Colby and Tony's teenage daughter, Olive face off with the Collector. Colby goes along with the idea despite a warning from Tony that the mission is doomed to fail, risking Tony's wrath both for involving Olive and for secretly working with Savoy, the man who betrayed Tony and bit off his ear.
Chew has taken things up a notch as it nears the conclusion of the series (only three volumes to go!), so be prepared for death and dismemberment to happen, even to the main cast. There's a lot of gore (though as ever it's pretty cartoonish in style) and less humour in this volume, though it does contain a one-shot adventure called
Poyo: Warrior Chicken, which helps to lift the mood a little.
Chew continues in
Chew Volume 10: Blood Puddin'.
