The canine equivalent of 'Netflix and Chill' - but better
"Chew Chomp and Chill?" What's that?
Simply put, Chew Chomp and Chill is the canine version of "Netflix and Chill"; it involves eating, playing, and of course, relaxing - you'd be hard pressed to find a dog that doesn't love all of these three things! Chew Chomp and Chill operates on the philosophy of "Mindful Feeding from the Head & Heart" - "my goal at Chew Chomp & Chill is to provide you with the highest quality pet foods and the most exciting range of enrichment toys, certain to get every tail wagging!" Kay Coonan, owner and founder of Chew Chomp and Chill, believes it's not just what you feed your dog, but how you feed it - after all, dogs in the wild generally don't have their food laid out in a bowl for them, twice a day. In the wild, a great deal of time and energy would be spent hunting and foraging for food. When dogs no longer have to work for their food, there is plenty of time for your pet to practice boredom behaviours like chewing, barking, escaping and digging! And this is where enrichment toys come in...
Chew Chomp and Chill is located in Auchenflower, conveniently located just 2.5km west of Brisbane's central business district. The steep rolling hills, breathtaking views of the City, and, of course, Chew Chomp and Chill, are just a few of the many gems that together make up this area of Brisbane. Although there is no designated car park for customers of Chew Chomp and Chill, there is plenty of street parking along the street on which the shop sits.
Here at Chew Chomp and Chill, dogs can try out all the enrichment toys they desire, with treats as rewards should they be successful! There is a wide range to choose from, from puzzles to balls and everything in between - feel free try them all out, to find the one your pup likes best. Kay is very knowledgeable in this area - she opened up her own shop due to her own experience of pet shops not having staff with the expertise and/or knowledge to recommend the enrichment toy that best suits each dog, in addition to a limited range of choices of enrichment toys in commercial pet shops. Kay will take into account, for example, your dog's size, interests, and experience in using enrichment toys, to give you the best possible choice that will best suit your dog.
In our case, Eddy has had some experience with enrichment toys and loves balls, so obviously he had to try out some of the balls! Sam on the other hand has had no prior experience with enrichment toys, and so was started off with the easiest one. The boys had a blast trying out all the different toys - and of course, the treats they got out of it were good too!
Eddy and Sam really enjoyed trying out all the different enrichment toys in store.
What products are available for sale at Chew Chomp and Chill?
In addition to a wide range of enrichment toys, Chew Chomp and Chill also stock a range of slow feeders (for the dogs like mine who like to inhale their food rather than use their jaws) and chew toys (for the dogs big on chewing out there). They also stock large bags of premium dog food, including a variety of flavours from Black Hawk, a holistic dog food brand. Speaking of premium dog food, Chew Chomp and Chill have in store a range of raw foods - it has been shown that many dogs benefit from a partially raw diet (i.e. given in conjunction with their daily kibble), or even a diet consisting of purely raw food. After all, raw meat is what dogs would have eaten in historic times. There are many brands to choose from here, including Raw 4 Paws, Organic Paws, and Woah Nelly - Woah Nelly even has free samples available if your dog is a picky eater, or if your dog hasn't tried raw food before. And of course, last but not least, Chew Chomp and Chill has treats - many, many different types of treats!
Shelves upon shelves of enrichment toys, slow feeders, and chews.
Chew Chomp and Chill also have Henry Hottie therapeutic beds for sale - there's even one in store that you can try out. The boys (and I...) can personally vouch for how comfortable the bed is! Henry Hottie beds offer comfort and therapeutic benefit (particularly to joints), warmth in winter, is cooling in summer, which, to top it off, was easy to care for.
In addition, once a month, Chew Chomp and Chill becomes home to seminars held by Pawsitive Connection, specialists in animal training, behaviour and wellness. These seminars cover a wide variety of topics, including how to help your pets be happy being alone at home, canine nutrition and the benefits of providing a raw diet for your dog, and even learning how to speak dog! Each seminar costs just $20 per adult or $30 per couple from the same household - children incur no additional fees.
