Can you give me a quick introduction to ?
If you're always on the lookout for dog cafes that actually cater for your precious furbabies, look no further - specialises in creating homemade organic and nutritious meals, using only natural ingredients to ensure the best for your pet in terms of both health and taste! Of course, true to its name, is an eatery designed specifically for pets - unlike cafes that are dog friendly but usually do not cater for the pooches, has an extensive food, drink,
and dessert menu for the dogs to choose from and be spoiled! Feel free to dine in or order takeaway - either way, your dog will love you for gifting them with the "Chew Chew experience".
How did come about?
was founded in 2010 by Naoko Okamato, a qualified Pet Nutritionist and Pet Care Advisor. Having studied pet nutrition for many years, with a specific focus on knowledge based from molecular nutrition and the immune system, Naoko has a firm belief in the important role a nutritious diet has in improving the health of nearly all pets. This expertise, coupled with a love for animals and a passion for helping pet owners find easy, natural and affordable ways to keep their pets healthy, came about.
Naoko's nutritional belief is that "the important factor is
not how much protein or vitamins they need in a day", but rather the fact that pets "need to eat meat or fish, and vegetables", because "these things already have the natural protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals that your pet requires". It is so important that we keep our pets healthy so that they can live long and fruitful lives, and also so that we can maximise the amount of happy memories that can be created!
What's the ambience like at ?
takes shape in the form of a small shop with a beautiful white picket fence - its a place where both humans and animals are welcome, unlike more traditional cafes. Customers are immediately put at ease and made to feel welcome by Naoko and her team, and with appropriate gates and fences within the cafe, dogs will be happy to hear that they can explore the place off-leash without any confines! Of course, here at Chew Chew, the animals are the main focus - as such, the seating is arranged in a circle around the room, facing the centre, such that everyone can have a good view of the furbabies. With plenty of natural light shining in through the large windows, Chew Chew is a great place to spend a relaxing morning or afternoon with your spoilt pooches.
What sort of food can I choose from at ?
The doggy menu at has everything from entrees to dessert and everything in between, including a gourmet selection! The gourmet menu includes 'The Mishmash' (Doggy Big Breakfast) and 'Salmon with Mash Potato', fresh from Sydney's fish markets and chock full of Omega 3. In fact, dogs can even opt for a 'Three Course Meal Set', which includes an entree (organic chicken soup), main (choose from their signature menu), and dessert (doggie cappuccino and a jelly or cupcake). Naoko has had 7 cats and 2 dogs to date, including Douglas, Naoko's current furbaby - Naoko "would not feed [her] dog anything that [she] could not put in [her] own mouth". The food is lovingly prepared fresh upon order by Chefs Hazki and Marie, who, like the owners, want only the best for the dogs.
Eddy opted for the Chicken Risotto with Brown Rice from the Signature Menu - it's worth mentioning that all dishes from this menu come with Chew Chew Balance Flakes (more on this later), vegetables, and either brown rice or pasta. This cost only $9.00, and was a large enough serve that Eddy was given a little container to take home and have for breakfast the next day! Eddy also got a Doggie Cappuccino (goats milk with kangaroo liver powder sprinkle) to help wash down his risotto, but I'm sure if he was given the choice he would gladly have eaten everything on the menu!
It's worth noting that although Chew Chew does not cater specifically for humans, there is a cafe right next door - if you order there and let staff know that your pet is at Chew Chew, they are happy to bring your order over so that you
and your pet can have a meal together!
Are there any food products from that I can buy and take home rather than have in store?
Although items from the 'Cafe Menu' (cappuccino, waffle, cupcake, yoghurt jelly) are for dine in only, the rest of the menu can still be ordered as takeaway for you to bring home and treat your pooch at your discretion. In addition, have in stock a whole range of food items, ranging from dry kibble to chew treats and everything in between. There are literally shelves upon shelves to choose from; you're bound to find a product (or two) that your pooch will love!
One of the original products that Naoko created are the 'Balance Flakes', an all natural supplement that provides the nutrition your pet needs for optimum health and vitality. In addition to being a great supplement to keep your pet healthy, it also helps in the treatment of weeping eyes, itching, body odour, and lack of appetite - if your pet has these symptoms, just simple triple the dosage. The Balance Flakes are easily administered to your pets - just simply sprinkle it onto your pet's food! Balance Flakes are made from human grade natural organic ingredients that are entirely free of artificial colourings, pesticides, and chemical preservatives.
Plus, offers food delivery services to Sydney homes - all meals can be customised, as each nutritional situation is different and dependent on a wide range of factors such as environment, exercise, existing medical conditions, and so forth. For more information, please contact Naoko.
Is there anything else worth noting about ?
does host pet birthday parties upon request, although they ask that customers make a booking if there are 4 or more people coming. Birthday cake sets are available with prices starting from $38 - this includes a nutritious birthday cake, treats,
and a meal. Can you think of a better way to celebrate your furbaby's special day?
As a bonus service, Naoko takes great shots of you and your pooch using a DSLR - these photos are then sent to the owner to commemorate the good times that you and your furbaby shared at . It's almost like having a free photoshoot - Naoko sent Eddy and I some great, candid shots - thank you!
Where is located?
I thought you'd never ask! is by the North Shore Line of Wollstonecraft Station, just a 30 second walk away. The restaurant itself cannot be seen from the road, but keep your eyes peeled for the sign that will point you in the right direction. Otherwise, feel free to give the restaurant a call (like we did...) if you get lost!
Thank you so much for having us Naoko, we had the loveliest time - Eddy obviously really enjoyed his food, and we love knowing how this 'treat' is also very healthy and nutritious for him!
