Sumptuous savouries and decadent desserts
Cheung's Cakes & Café offers a smorgasbord of sweet and savoury bakery items that will satisfy just about anyone. Cheung's is a combination of a bakery and a café thereby allowing you the freshness of a bakery while also offering you a place to lounge and enjoy your treats. Everything is left on display for you to help yourself before opting to dine in or take away.

I don't really have a place that I visit regularly. However, since discovering this café a couple of months ago it has become a favourite. With so many choices available I will continue to go back until I have tried just about everything.

My latest visit to Cheung's included a delicious coconut tart ($2.50) and a flat white coffee ($3.30). The coconut tart was light, fluffy and not too sweet, allowing the coconut flavour to shine through. While the coffee was very hot and strong, making it perfect for a winter's mid-morning pick-me-up. Here's an idea of what else you can expect.

Coffee and Coconut Tart
This coffee and coconut tart combination was a delicious interruption to my morning.

The range of sweet and savoury buns, cakes, slices, tarts and cookies will leave you pondering what to sample first. Some of the bun flavours include ham & egg, ham & cheese, chicken, barbeque pork, custard and red bean. All of the bakery items have a really light texture and consistency that is different to a lot of other places.

Bakery Items
This bountiful selection of bakery items will keep you satisfied.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to indulge in some cake you can select from chocolate, coconut, banana and black forest, just to name a few. Flavoured slices include vanilla, mocha, coffee, apple and lemon vanilla. Furthermore, feel free to select from the tarts which also include egg and pecan. And I haven't even mentioned the bags full of different kinds of cookies yet.

Cake Display
There's more than enough cake for everyone to enjoy.

The amazing thing is there is still a lot more to choose from, so make sure you have a look next time you are in The Valley. Everything is baked fresh in-store daily so it always tastes wonderfully fresh and flavoursome.

However, what really impresses me about this place are the prices. Everything is really affordable with most of the items ranging in price from $1.80 to $2.90. I haven't been anywhere else in Brisbane with such high quality products for those kinds of prices. You can also choose from a range of coffees and teas that will keep any budget happy.

Casual Dining
Whether you dine in or take away you'll be happy you came.

Additionally, Cheung's makes a variety of cakes to order. A round cake costs $17 per pound (about 450 grams) and you can choose from a selection of flavours including but not limited to chocolate mud, chocolate caramel, Sacher torte, white chocolate mousse, strawberry mousse, New York cheesecake and carrot. These are the perfect solution to your next birthday party or celebration.

Cafe Entrance
Cheung's Café is a great place to indulge in a delicious snack or meal.

Cheung's Cakes and Café is centrally located and is open six days a week from Monday to Saturday. I have noticed a larger selection of ready-made bakery items during the week. However, if you can only make it on the weekend, there is still ample to choose from. You won't be disappointed either way.
