At Hervey Bay Library, every Saturday, prior to Christmas 2021, is a chess meetup for players and newbies of all ages/expertise - this is a FREE event with no bookings required!

This is quite an interesting game and complements interests in math and computing - this is mentioned because some computing activities involve exercises/designs based on chess (although this event is simply based on playing chess on a physical board). This event is ultimately a little bit more mentally stimulating than most events. The chess meetup can offer a chance to try this game and perhaps progress with it by practising against other new and also more experienced good players.

Linked to a separate page is an online chessboard (of chesshub.com) to allow for some pre-event practise against computerised opponents, hence refamiliarising with the rules of chess and getting some vital practice at openings, pins , check and checkmate!

Held at Hervey Bay Library, 161 Old Maryborough Road, Hervey Bay, QLD 4655. - the event is operating under Queensland Health requirements, with more information at the event's Eventbrite ticketing page . Although tickets aren't necessary either in what is essentially a tolerant and relaxed meeting to aid chess enthusiasts in their interests in the great game of chess - it's got a ticketing page for promotional purposes and would require much larger than expected attendance to make it an only ticket meet - so, for now, it is a FREE walk-in event, despite the ticketing page. While it is a walk-in, it's the perfect chance to meet and participate in chess for the rest of 2021. - further information can be gained by calling 4197 4220 (according to Eventbrite) from within Queensland, or, if outside of Queensland, using the 07 dialling code then the number.

Chess has a fascinating history being more than one thousand years old and having various forms in its history before emerging into a world game with computerised versions and an international championship .
