From early December until mid January, this farm is opening their gates to their beautiful Yarra Valley orchard every day throughout the cherry season. This all means that you can come along with friends and family for a unique and interesting day in the country.
It is just a leisurely one hour's drive from Melbourne's CBD, and the orchard and shop are open every day through the cherry season, from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm each day except Christmas Day.
Have you ever actually picked cherries yourself? It is fun and a great experience but make sure you instruct your children what to look for so that you end up with the best stock on hand when you leave!
You can always pack a delightful picnic, enjoy that lovely fresh summer air and sunshine and have fun picking the biggest, sweetest tasting cherries right off the tree. You'll never taste cherries fresher than these that you pick yourself.
The friendly owners will show you where and how to pick the ripest and most delicious ones and ensure you have fun and learn at least something on the way! Furthermore, you can eat as many as you want at the orchard and then take some to enjoy at home! Eat what you want while you are there - take care - do not eat too many!
When you've finished picking, chill out and enjoy their famous cherry ice cream, their delicious cherry drinks and the brand new cherry cocktail range!
There will also be a shuttle bus throughout the season as this orchard is extremely big. This will ensure you are easily able to go around the best places to pick in the orchard. The shuttle bus cost is also included in the entry ticket.
The address for this event is CherryHill Orchards, 480 Queens Road, Wandin and it will be open from 30th November 2019 – 12th January 2020. You can make your bookings at this website. It is highly recommended that you book this event online. With doing this you are guaranteed a quicker entry and especially on Sundays and Public Holidays when the farm can become very busy.
It is a good idea to wear comfortable footwear for the orchard. Suncream/block and hats are encouraged as the Australian summer sun can be intense on some days.
Picking buckets and bags for your cherries are provided so you do not have to bring them, however, you might like to bring an esky to cool your freshly picked cherries. Cherries are perishable and will last longer if they are cooled as soon as possible after picking, so an esky is a really good idea.
There are also some cherry products available that you can buy such as ice cream and more, as well as different treats.
