Tucked away in the historic Ginninderra Village is a very charming cupcake shop called Cherry Seed. It's like a small little cottage you'd expect to find at the end of a meandering garden in the woods, and inside is a fun and colourful space dedicated to everything cupcake.
The cupcakes sit in a counter up the front, they're beautiful to look at, and not too over the top with towering frosting or artificial colours. The flavours are more traditional and include ones like red velvet, hummingbird, chocolate, and vanilla. Of course there are plenty of other flavours, so you'll have to pop into the shop to try them.
You can get drinks to go with your cupcakes, including coffees, teas, and milkshakes. The tea comes from Scullery Made Tea, all the way down in the Barossa, they're unique tea blends made with more than just tea. The Beekeeper's Breakfast comes recommended from one of the girls in the store, it's a black tea soaked in raw honey, with bee pollen, calendula, apple, and ginger. Cherry Seed is a very family friendly place, so of course you can also get babycinnos complete with marshmallows for those little ones in your life.
You can sit inside the cafe, or pick a table outside overlooking the garden. They even have a basket full of picnic blankets inside, and you can grab one if you want to enjoy your cupcakes on the lawn. Inside the walls are filled with pretty cake supplies, inspiring you to create your own cupcakes at home, and the cafe's look is completed with colourful bunting, black and white checked tiles, and a huge blackboard wall covered with plenty of inspiration.
To add to the charm there's also a vintage caravan, I am Norma. You can hire her out for your own events, or see her at various events around Canberra selling Cherry Seed cupcakes.
If you're a little bit in love with the space, then you might be glad to know that Cherry Seed also host children's parties. If you're after a party that's not filled with Dora and various other cartoon characters, you'll love the sweet parties that Cherry Seed can put on. Or if you're throwing your own party you can order cupcakes from Cherry Seed, and pick up extra supplies in store.
If Cherry Seed has one downfall, it's that they don't have a store in the centre of town, but their current location is so perfect that you wouldn't want it any other way. Cherry Seed is open from Thursday to Sunday 10am-4pm.
