Cherry picking the best of the festival
Melbourne's oldest fresh food market will be serving up bunches of FREE cherry red fun on Saturday 21st November 2015. Prahran Market's Cherry Festival offers family friendly entertainment, involving all things cherry related, throughout the day.
Prahran Market is offering a day that's jam packed with cherry-related events
The fun starts at 10.30am in Market Square, with fruiterers competing with one another to see who can spit the cherry pip furthest in the annual cherry pip competition.
In a (cherry) jam-packed day, shoppers will be treated to a Fritz Gelato ice cream cart, tastings and entertainment. There will be an array of delectable cherry-themed delicacies including Black Forest eclairs from Bibelot, and Doughboys' mouth-watering compote cherry/dark Belgian mousse doughnuts. Also look out for creations from the traders and roving entertainers, including fresh cherry cups, cherry chocolates, sour cherry soup and fairy floss.
The cherry festival marks the start of the cherry season
For the kids, there will be smoothie making between 11.00am and 2.00pm, cherry face painting between 11.00am and 3.00pm, and a cherry balloon artist all day.
Enjoy a refreshing cherry cocktail from the Chapel St Cellars Cherry Bar.
Pop into the Blanco Kitchen for cooking demonstrations including a cherry preserving demonstration, and shopper contests, between 12 noon and 3.00pm.
